Onlooker,

A wise person once said, “No time is just an excuse. In doing what you are really passionate about, one must make time instead.”

I have tried doing most things faster (including eat), cut down on my cyber-game time, and minimize social media hours to make time for my studies. And now that i dont have to study anymore… I can catch up with other things in life! Hoorah! πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‹πŸŽ. That’s what you think… πŸ˜’ 24 hours never seem to be enough for everything but knowing that, one should still utilise it to the fullest.

There were a few movies that i have watched for the past month. Three simple words to describe them (to catch up on my reviews πŸ˜…) :

Before I go to Sleep

Onlookers,

(Spoiler Alert)

Nicole Kidman, as far as i remember, has never failed to portray a believable character. And again, she succeeded in this movie.

It is about Christine, who has a form of anterograde amnesia after an event involving multiple blows to her head. Therefore, she started her morning not knowing what happened the previous day and her husband, Ben, relentlessly reminded her of who she was. (Drew Barrymore’s 50 first dates came to mind – but in a serious thriller mode). Until, Dr Nasch, a neuropsychologist who took interest in her disorder, adviced her to keep a visual diary in her digital camera. (Funny that she used only Nokia 3310 and not iphone… If she did, she can just make selfie vids instead of using another device)

Her diary developed and revealed bits and pieces of information until a plot in the movie was revealed. The man who is currently living with her, is NOT who he seem to be! (🎢Jeng jeng jeng🎢).

The storyline is quite straightforward. Even the twist…was predictable. If its not because of Nicole Kidman’s superb performance, the whole movie would be a worse failure.

Love, Rosie

Posted: October 28, 2014 in Cinephile, Movies, Review

Onlookers,

Epic love stories always begin with hardship and near misses of being together as shown in this movie. It depicted the love story of two main characters; Rosie, (Lily Collins – Mortal instruments) and Alex (Sam Claffin – hunger games catching fire) who are childhood friends. A baby and 3 broken marriages later only their path met and they lived happily ever after.

It is one of a few love stories that i was dragged into watching πŸ˜…. In the romantic genre, I prefer Fault in our stars over this movie, but Teacher’s Diary superceded all of the above. Rosie and Alex’s lives were pathetic and all of that wouldnt happen if no adulteries were committed. Rosie would have done her hotel management degree in boston, and theyd live happily ever after.

It is a light watch; kept me smiling throughout half of the movie, and pitying their life journey for the other half. CD material.

Book of Life

Onlookers,

(Spoiler alert)

A field trip to the museum brought 5 school kids into the story about the Book of Life. It contained life stories of each and every living human. One of them was based in the centre of Mexico, concerning a love triangle between 2 best childhood friends (Manolo the guitarista and Joaquin the soldier) and Maria the prettiest girl in all of San Angel.

The rulers of the Realm of the Remembered (La Muerte) and Realm of the Forgotten (Xibalba) had nothing better to do then gamble, they decided to elect their champions between the two boys and bet who will eventually marry Maria… It was their hobby i suppose. And their adventures began…

It was an excellent 3D animation despite the characters being anatomically disproportionate. It was also a light watch but at the same time there wasnt any boring moments because the scenes developed one after another in quite a fast pace. The best part was Manolo’s journey through the two Realms with the rest of the Sanchez ancestors that also ended with the lamest part where he sang a monstrous bull to smitherines … 😳. Then again, it still was a fun movie. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Oh. And a special shout out to the person who made the Malay subtitle. Great job!

“Aya caramba chihuahua!” was translated as “Mak datuk!” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ hilarious!
